Annual Events in Raleigh NC

What makes Raleigh such a great place to live?  In addition to the warm weather and Southern charm, there are a large selection of family-friendly Annual Events in Raleigh NC that span the entire year.

Each spring, Raleigh hosts Artsposure, a celebration of creativity that includes musicians, arts and crafts, and children’s performances.  Every year, over 170 artists and craftsman exhibit original works of art, including jewelry, paintings, sculptures, photography, pottery, woodwork, and more.  Booths are set up on Fayetteville Street downtown, along with food trucks, music, and events for the children.

A fun February tradition in Raleigh is the Krispy Kreme Challenge.  This unique event requires competitors to run 2.5 miles, eat a dozen doughnuts, followed by another 2.5 mile run in under an hour.  This event attracts around 8,000 costume-wearing runners each year and has raised a cumulative 1.5 million dollars for the UNC Children’s Hospital. One of the most fun Annual Events in Raleigh NC.

Another Raleigh favorite is the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival each March.  This free event is hosted downtown and features traditional Irish dancing, bagpipes, and marching bands.  The festival celebrates Irish and Celtic traditions and culture and is enjoyed by children of all ages.

The North Carolina ‘Cuegrass Festival takes place each April, featuring some of the region’s best barbeque and a variety of local beer.  This event is also highlighted by a lineup of bluegrass bands playing in Raleigh’s Warehouse District.

Each October, Raleigh hosts the North Carolina State Fair, a favorite among residents throughout the state, drawing in over 1 million visitors.  The State Fair showcases the finest of North Carolina, from livestock shows to music and local food favorites.  One of the Fair’s most popular events is the Village of Yesteryear, featuring over 75 arts and craft displays, such as homemade rugs and hand-crafted pottery.

Winter is made more bearable each December and January with the annual IPREO Raleigh Winterfest, which features an outdoor skating rink, live music, sledding, and holiday events.  Thousands of people gather each year to enjoy rides, a visit from Santa, and a gingerbread house competition.

Raleigh also hosts First Night Raleigh scheduled on New Year’s Eve.  This annual event celebrates the arts with live music, a children’s carnival, and food trucks. You can also count down to midnight with the famous Acorn Drop followed by a huge fireworks display.

No matter what time of the year it is, come see what Raleigh has to offer!
